Stories with Zola

From Savannah Bassett in Lincoln, VT who is 8 years old

Last night, I read my favorite book, The Brownie Girl Adventures, to mommy and when she tucked me into bed, I had a dream about Zola coming to my tree house. I helped Daddy build my tree house on my 6th birthday last year. My tree house is really cool. There are only 8 stairs on the tree ladder to climb to get in. The door is orange and there are lots of different colors inside, like a rainbow.

I have all kinds of stuff in my tree house. Zola is 6 years old just like I was so we played dress up as the characters from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I have a toy pony, Honey, in my tree house too. We took turns putting on different pony costumes. Zola picked Pinkie Pie and we had a glitter party, there was glitter everywhere!

I was Rainbow Dash; we used some of the glitter and some ribbons to make a rainbow. We danced around and had so much fun. We ate some cookies that mommy had made then went outside to play hide and go seek. Zola was so easy to find, her hair puffs were so big. Mommy came to wake me up for school so I had to say bye bye to Zola, that was the best dream ever.

Every Sunday after church my parents and I would go to my Nana’s house for Sunday dinner. Last Sunday, my Nana gave me a book called The Brownie Girl Adventures. At first I said, “Nana this book is for girls” but she said, “No honey, you are going to enjoy this story.” When I opened the book and my mommy started to read it to me, Zola loved brownies just like I did and I use to ask my mommy for brownies for breakfast too!

After mommy was done reading the book to me, we ate our Sunday dinner and Nana had a surprise dessert for us, she usually made pies but this Sunday she made brownies. A few different type of brownies and there were all kinds of toppings for us to make brownie sundaes. I like vanilla ice cream so I put 3 scoops on my brownie with fudge and lots of sprinkles. Mommy likes chocolate ice cream so she just had that with a cherry and Daddy doesn’t like ice cream so he ate the brownie with the nuts in it. Nana was watching us make our sundaes but she wasn’t making one so I helped her to make one too then we talked about all the adventures that Zola went on during her family vacation.

We had so much fun last Sunday and now when we go to Nana’s I look at all the pictures from The Brownie Girl Adventures book and ask my Nana for brownies, of course.

I had such a fun filled summer this year like Zola did on vacation in her book, The Brownie Girl Adventures. My play-dates began in June with my favorite twins, brother-like pals, Brandon and Max. Meeting them for the first time was so cool, I never saw twins before so it was a little confusing at first but we quickly became friends and played with the drums while our mommies talked. Then I went away with my mommy and daddy to Massachusetts for their 3rd wedding anniversary and my mommy’s birthday. I went in the pool and didn’t want to leave.

July was packed with adventures; I went to the beach, like Zola did, with mommy, daddy and my Auntie Ro. I saw fireworks for the first time; it was awesome! I also went to an amusing park with my friends Aiden and Jamarion, just like Zola did and we had a zoo day play-date too! I think my favorite animal was the tiger; it was very big. Then I had some library play-dates with my friend Kennedy. I also went to my first kiddy gym and met some really nice people.

In August, I had a play-date with my buddies, Nizhoni and Jaqai where we bounced around in bouncy houses and giggled all afternoon. Then I went on my first story time trolley ride with my mommy and my friends: Mikayla, Justin, Maddy, Kyla and Janelle, we had so much fun. Lastly, I visited the aquarium, like Zola did, with my mommy, daddy and my friends Aiden and Jamarion. We saw lots of cool water animals, ran around in the children’s play area and took tons of pictures. Can’t wait until next summer!
